Joy Phido founded
World of Braiding & Extensions based on her exposure to the business of braiding and teaching. Joy who is of African descent started braiding from the age of 5 years as is part of her culture. She maintained her braiding hobby which she later translated to business. On her relocation to England, she continued braiding on a part time basis in addition to other career experiences.
Joy took up a contract with the Local Council Adult Education Department to teach braiding for adult learners. While on her teaching career, she remained curious with braiding and traveled to America to compare the standards of braid teaching practiced there. On her return, she had made a good comparison between the braiding practices of Africa, America and England. This comparison has made her a more verse and knowledgeable braider while dealing with learners from across the world.
This enabled her to introduce the Modern Hair Braiding Concept. In her teaching experiences Joy had to deal with a multi racial groups of students. She noticed that her students who came from all backgrounds only needed one thing in common to become expert braiders – interest.
She had created expert braiders from people who had no knowledge or experience of braiding. This inspired her to start
World of Braiding & Extensions. Her comparison of braiding from across the globe continue to provide her with a wealth of information which she passes on to her students thereby making them better informed braiding professionals.
Joy believes that the key to teaching is about communication. This is aimed at getting a message across such that the recipient understands its content and meaning. This is a skill which
World of Braiding & Extensions has used over time and has successfully created hundreds of satisfied students who have trained to become professional braiders and have gone on to achieve their dreams by becoming self employed, starting their salons, work in a salon, add braiding to their careers, braiding their loved ones etc.
